First and foremost, we are a family oriented club. We have 94 members.
Our members range in age from a few months old to antiques. Each and
every person has an important part in making this club a great club.
We enjoy getting together, not only for car shows and cruises, but
as friends as well. Our cars are our hobbies and passions, but it's
the fellowship we enjoy most.
Our club is called the North Texas Street Cars Association. It was
started in 1987. If you would like to know more about the founding
of the club, we still have some original members. Just ask Glen and
Betty South. Our dues are $20.00 a year. Our President is Gary Birmingham
and our Vice President is Ron Coates. We have 70 automobiles in the
club. The cars are as diversified as our members are. We have antiques,
classic, original, modified, fast ones and slow ones. Some are so
pretty and shiny you can see yourself in them and some are so worn
out you are afraid to touch them, least something falls off. We even
have members that don't have a car, but are looking for that one special
car that makes their heart flutter.
The second Saturday of each month from, April to October, from 5:00
PM to 8:00 PM, we hold our car shows at Scotty's Restaurant The address
is 5100 North Beach Street, Haltom City, Texas. It's located at N.
Beach and 820. Scotty's phone number is 817-281-0057. Entry fees are
$10.00. After the shows we usually have something for dinner and hang
out for a while.
Our club meetings are held the third Saturday, of every month, from
4:00 to 6:00P.M. at the Stockyard Masonic Lodge at 2901 Schwartz.
It's located off of 28th Street, in Fort Worth. You take I-35W south
to NE 28th St. turn right, go to the red light (Oscar) go to the next
street (Schwartz) turn right, go one block and the Lodge is on the
left. This is when we talk and vote about what events, car shows and
cruises, we want to attend or sponsor, as well as club business.
Besides our regular shows we also attend different shows and events
throughout the year. We also like to get together for cruises. We've
been to Granbury, to the drive-in movies. We've been several times
to a fifties diner by the Brazos river, for lunch and drove to Decatur
for dinner. We've been in parades and attended numerous shows and
special events, like the Independence Day Parade in White Hills Lake.
In May we have our biggest and most rewarding show, for the Retts
Foundation. In 2007 with the help of club members and all the generous
participants at our show we were able to give the Retts Foundation
$4,000.00 which brings our total over the last 9 years to over $30,000.00.
Our July show is called Christmas in July. Instead of an entry fee
everyone is asked to bring a toy, for the Haltom City Fire & Police
Association. In 2007 we raised over $800.00.
In October for our spooks and goblins show we have a costume contest,
for children and adults. We also have candy for the trick or treaters
who visit us that night.
At the November meeting we have nominations for officers and chairpersons
for the next year. At the December meeting we vote for officers and
chairpersons.
In December we visit Abundant Life Children's Home outside of Decatur
and deliver educational toys, household staples and a gift card to
shop at Walmart.
Also sometime in January we have our post holiday party, with a potluck
dinner, music, dancing and a gift exchange game.
Our newsletter is published monthly. It's a hodge podge of what went
on at the monthly meeting, past and coming events and shows, jokes,
who did what, when and where, recipes, upcoming birthdays, anniversaries
and feature car of the month.
Usually some of us meet around 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM each Friday at
Scotty's Diner, located at 5100 North Beach Street, Haltom City, it's
located on the corner of N. Beach and 820. This is our night to talk
and visit and for the guys to check out our cars, after all someone
might have changed a light bulb, or something as equally as important
during the week, and every guy needs to talk about why and how it
was changed. It's kind of like an open house get together for everyone.
This is a really good time to visit and get to know us night. Even
if joining a club is not for you, come by and visit with us anyway.
Well, guess that's about it as far as a generalization of what goes
on in our club. About the only thing we really strive for is that
everyone enjoy the time we spend together, whether it's at a car show,
cruising or just hanging out. So if you like to talk, eat and laugh,
bring your smile and join us.
